How to Apply for Fire Ant Mounds?
For best control of Fire Ant mounds, combine a mound application along with a broadcast application. This will kill both the foraging ants along with the fly-in queens of the colony. When applying on mounds, use ½ cup of Talstar XTRA and water in application if the soil is not moist. With the ½ cup of product treat directly on the mound and out three feet from the mound.
Apply when weather is cooler, either in the morning or in the evening. The colony will be controlled in 15 minutes and 24 hours for the queen to die. The broadcast application will prevent fire ants for up to 4 months by killing any foraging or newly mated fly-in queens from creating a colony on the treated areas.
What Locations Are Safe To Apply?
Unlike other products for Fire Ant control, Talstar XTRA is safe to apply around residential, public, commercial buildings, including parks, athletic fields, and recreational areas.
It is safe for Turfgrass sites, Landscape Ornamentals, and any other non-food plants.

Rates and Control Application Timing
Talstar XTRA can be applied anywhere from 50-200 lbs of product per acre. Please read the label for proper application rates as it does change depending on what insects you are controlling.
Depending on what insect you are trying to control will change the application timing. If you are trying to control Billbugs for example, you will need to apply Talstar XTRA in the Spring when billbugs are first observed. If you are applying for Scorpions, apply when nighttime temperatures reach 75°F.
